Upscaling our Programme

Lok Swasthya, like other sister organizations promoted by SEWA, is intrinsically committed to expanding the outreach of its health programs and expansion of the larger SEWA movement. With 20 years of experience in implementation of health programs in Ahmedabad city and Ahmedabad district, Lok Swasthya in 2009 decided to expand its health program in South Gujarat, Gandhinagar and Rajasthan. It was able to do so with the support of the MacArthur Foundation which gave us an award for “Effective Institutions”. In South Gujarat, it was decided that the existing health program in Surat city would be strengthened and a new rural area such as Vyara taluka in Tapi district would be included. Vyara taluka (block) primarily comprises of tribal population who are engaged as small and marginal farmers and agricultural labourers. In Surat city we are currently working in 40 areas in 5 wards and in Vyara taluka we are working in 30 villages. In Gandhinagar we are working with agricultural workers in 30 villages in Degham Taluka. Further in Rajasthan we are also working in 15 villages in Luni taluka in Jodhpur district.
