Quality Antenatal Care for Insured Women Workers Project

With a view to ensure quality antenatal and postnatal care for members covered under the Fixed Deposit Scheme of Vimo SEWA, we initiated this project in partnership with United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in March 2003. This was conducted in three phases for a period of 16 months in Ahmedabad city.

The objectives of the QOC Project sought to:

  • Converge health and insurance activities especially focusing on quality antenatal care for its insured members, towards the ultimate goal of full employment and self-reliance.
  • Generate a greater demand for antenatal healthcare services from members.
  • Design, implement and assess various interventions to improve access to antenatal and postnatal services, and obstetric care of adequate quality to Vimo SEWA fixed deposit members.

First Phase included:

  • Quantitative and qualitative research
  • Mapping of healthcare providers
  • Workshops for healthcare providers and SEWA functionaries

Second Phase included:

  • Early identification of pregnant Vimo SEWA members and linkage with health providers
  • Awareness generation
  • Identification of 2 Municipal hospitals and 4 Trust hospitals for cashless transactions for its members
  • Training and capacity building
  • Monitoring

Third Phase included:
